Studying while unemployed

We cooperate extensively with different educational institutions. In addition to employment services, we also offer other short courses that promote employment:

• permit training (alcohol passport, hygiene pass, first aid card, hot work card, occupational safety card, etc.)
• field-specific short-term training
• supplementary training
• competence analyses and preparatory training
• labour market training.

Seek education adviceprovided by the employment services. We will help you find suitable education and consider different alternatives.

Also contact your own specialist as soon as you start thinking about study opportunities. This way, you will have the right information from the start, for example, on how studying affects your unemployment benefit. The easiest way to contact your specialist is to leave a contact request in the E-services.

Tell your specialist what you want to study and where. Together, you can discuss the best options for your situation and their possible effects on the unemployment benefit. You can also call the Unemployment benefit advice service.

• The unemployment benefit is not intended as support for full-time studies. The student financial aid system exists for this purpose.
• Unemployment benefit can only be paid for the duration of studies that support finding employment quickly.
• The training must promote your employment. The employment services will assess whether the training improves your situation for finding employment, develops your skills and enables you to find a job.
