The chances of a business idea succeeding in practice are improved by successful support in the early stages. Therefore, a pilot project to support entrepreneurship among young people is under way in Helsinki with the aim of providing help for young people to practise entrepreneurship and to support them in the early stages of entrepreneurship. The aim of the city is to invest in services for new companies in accordance with the strategy. For this reason, it is also important to identify the entrepreneurial potential of young people more effectively.

“More and more young people want to start their own business and become entrepreneurs. Recognising this growing interest is very important,” says Maria Korpisalo, Business Adviser at the City of Helsinki.

The Youth Entrepreneurship Pilot will employ two entrepreneurship experts to provide low-threshold, targeted coaching for young people who are interested in entrepreneurship. The participants will be able to explore entrepreneurship as a career option and receive support at the same time.

“Our key objective is to make it easier for young people to become entrepreneurs by providing coaching where they can network with others in the same situation, share success stories, learn about entrepreneurship and hear various stories about entrepreneurship. This kind of support helps young entrepreneurs to develop their skills, find the right networks and build their confidence on the entrepreneurial path,” adds Korpisalo.

The Youth Entrepreneurship Pilot can be explored without an appointment in Ohjaamo on Fridays

The Youth Entrepreneurship Pilot service can be accessed directed by a personal employment expert of the city’s employment services or by visiting Ohjaamo on Fridays. Ohjaamo is a place for people under the age of 30 where it is possible to get free help and support on a wide range of issues, from studying and employment to housing – and everything in between. Helsinki’s Ohjaamo offers low-threshold entrepreneurial guidance without an appointment on Fridays from 12:00 noon to 16:00. Ohjaamo is located in Kamppi in Frederikinkatu 48.

The Youth Entrepreneurship Pilot is implemented in close cooperation between Helsinki’s employment and business advisory services. The pilot will run until the end of September 2024.
