You can register as a jobseeker before your unemployment or temporary lay-off begins, but please do so no later than on your first day of unemployment, as you can only receive unemployment benefits starting from your date of registration.

As of 1 January 2025, you should register as an unemployed jobseeker primarily in E-service.  You can sign in to Job Market Finland’s Official Matters service using your online banking credentials, mobile certificate or ID card with a chip.

If you cannot sign in using these methods or if you are not a citizen of an EU or EEA country or Switzerland, you can register as a jobseeker at our offices in Kamppi (Malminkatu 34) and Itäkeskus (Asiakkaankatu 3A) without an appointment Mon–Fri 9:00–16:00.

The change will not affect the amount or payment date of your unemployment benefits.

You should apply for unemployment benefits from Kela or your unemployment fund starting from your first day of unemployment. Please visit the payer’s website for more information. Helsinki Employment Services will send a statement to the payer about your eligibility for unemployment benefits. The payer then decides on the basis of your situation and the statement whether you will receive unemployment benefits and the benefit amount.

If your plan was updated less than three months ago, it does not need to be updated. If your plan has not been updated in the last three months, we will discuss the updating of your plan when we contact you.

The best way to contact your specialist is to submit a contact request online via Job Market Finland’s Official matters service.

Our advice services, which you can use without an appointment, are located in Kamppi at Malminkatu 34 and in Itäkeskus at Asiakkaankatu 3A. Our advice services are open Mon–Fri 9:00–16:00.

Helsinki Employment Services’ office at Viipurinkatu 2 can only be visited by appointment.

We serve people under the age of 30 without prebooked appointments at Ohjaamo in Kamppi at Fredrikinkatu 48 Mon–Fri at 12:00–16:00 as well as Ohjaamo in Itäkeskus at Turunlinnantie 1 on Thursdays at 12:00–16:00.

  We recommend contacting us via E-services. You can use the service to submit a request for contact to your designated specialist at Helsinki Employment Services. After receiving your contact request, we will contact you by phone.

If you want to ask about a statement you have received or your job search obligation, please contact your specialist directly.
